Zubeda Vahed, the owner and principal of the Montessori Pre-School, in 1992, completed her training and obtained her certificates and diplomas in the Montessori method of traning at the Mercy Montessori Training Centre, in both Kloof and Cape Town.

Zubeda Vahed then opened the school in 1993 at Shelley Crescent with a total of 10 children where she operated from her lounge.Her vision to teach in line with the teachings of Dr Montessori, together with her love for children created a winning recipe from these were humble beginnings where Zubeda did not imagine that the school would grow to where it is today.

With the support and with the word of mouth and recommendations of satisfied parents, parents enrolled their children at the Pre-School and the Pre-School had to relocate to its current premises, in Manning Avenue, Mountainrise, Pietermaritzburg.

The Montessori Pre-School is now a Pre-School to be reckoned with as the staff consists of Zubeda who is also a teacher apart from being the owner, as well as two other qualified directresses and a child helper, all of whom attended the various educational ECD workshops to further educate them in the needs of child and this further education, in essence, benifit the children at the school.

The motto and the principals the school is based on are that of respect, honesty and love between the children and the staff. Each child therefore gets the personal attention where their individualism is explored and the children are also taught to work in groups where the child will learn to share and interact with other children. The child will therefore grow confidence and attitude and with the vision and method as envisaged by Dr Montessori.

At the school the children we teach the children to respect each other, they learn how to become confident, self-aware individuals with their own minds and ideas. A child's mind is formed whilst young and they absorb facts and ideas immediately. Therefore the school aims to shape the child to become individuals of substance.
